Ardtornish
Ardtornish was the original name of the area now known as Modbury.
It was bought by John Morphett for Gillian MacLaine from Batavia.
Angus MacLaine, Gillian's brother took over the estate in 1840. He arrived in South Australia on the ship the "Dauntless".
Angus named his estate "Ardtornish" after Ardtornish in Argyleshire, Scotland.
A school was built in 1847.
The Ardtornish estate was the largest in the area in 1858.
In 1878 the "Ardtornish Estate" became part of the "Beefacres Estate" and the school, no longer in use, became a woodshed.
