George McEwin
At Glenn Ewin, George McEwin developed vineyards and orchards as well as a plant nursery. After he had a loss of fruit due to poor sales, he decided to turn the excess fruit into jam.He built a jam factory in 1864 and his jams were even sold overseas.
Charles Frederick Newman
Charles Newman came from Germany and arrived with his family in 1844 on the ship the "George Washington".
He established a plant nursery at Water Gully. It was successful until in 1913 a terrible storm destroyed many of the buildings and the plants.
The current Newman Nursery is in a new location on North East Road, Tea Tree Gully.
